Careers Service and CIS invite you to the training multiculturalism as a teaching tool.
In the decade we are currently living in, culture, cultural differences and intercultural communication are among the central ingredients of our life. As prospective teachers living and considering to teach in Poland that hosts over 2 million foreigners (according to data from GUS, 2020), we should consider highlighting the power of culture in our classrooms.
In the first part of the presentation, we will define culture, cultural patterns, components of Intercultural Competence, the The Behavioral Assessment Scale for Intercultural Competence (BASIC) and how we can apply the theoretical knowledge into teaching practice.
In the second part, we will talk about English as a Global English and what makes English a world or international English. Kachru’s Model (1992) and McArthur’s Model (1998) of categorizing English and the ownership of English. At the end of the presentation, there will be a short section where the audience will familiarize themselves with how it is like to work at an international school as a teacher.
